Reflections on the First NWHL Season
Winning the first ever Isobel Cup is a milestone that Gigi and her Boston Pride teammates will never forget. Looking back to this time last year, there was uncertainty and hesitation about the league, its success, and sustainability. There were numerous risks involved, but in taking that step of faith, Gigi and her teammates were able to play a significant part in making history in women’s hockey. Check out this article from the Minnesota Hockey Magazine in which Gigi reflects on her experience with the NWHL’s inaugural season: Risk and Reward.
Getting to Know Our Coaches: Milica McMillen Team: University of Minnesota Gophers Position: Defenseman Hometown: St. Paul, Minnesota When and how did you start playing hockey? “I started when I was 4. After a Learn-to-Skate session, there were some hockey players (Winny Brodt, Ronda and Renee Curtin) that went on after and I thought it looked really fun.” Who is your role model? “My role model is Karyn Bye-Dietz because she is one of the first women’s Olympic hockey players I watched and met.” What advice would you give to your younger self? “I would tell my younger self to make sure to enjoy the little things and soak in the moments because time goes way too fast.” What is your favorite RR19HS memory? “Last year’s RR19HS was my first year, and the whole thing was a blast. I think my favorite memory was playing the outdoor games during the off-ice sessions.” How did you celebrate this year’s NCAA title? “This year we got to go to a restaurant close to the rink with our family and friends after the game. We took lots of pictures and talked about the fun season we had.”
